Grooming Programs Offered
The programs offered at the New Jersey Dog Grooming Academy are to prepare the student to enter into Professional Pet Grooming. The Academy Objective is for our students to graduate with the techniques and skills necessary to successfully seek and maintain employment as an accomplished pet groomer or assistant groomer. Opportunities exist in grooming shops, veterinarian offices, kennels, pet shops, as well as mobile grooming. There is also a promising potential for establishing your own grooming shop!


Both programs (Grooming Assistant/Bather Brusher and Professional Groomer) offered at the New Jersey Dog Grooming Academy are Hands-On Training courses and teaches all aspects of dog grooming. Because the school is also a grooming salon, courses are taught in a highly individualized hands on training environment by certified instructors. There are no classroom situations. Students groom dogs every day and are encouraged to work and learn at their own pace. The majority of the course is centered on hands-on grooming whereby students will handle the animal from the moment it enters the school until it leaves, therefore learning by working with the animals.

• New Jersey Dog Grooming Academy has an open enrollment plan based on availability of space in the classroom
• Anticipated graduation date and program length vary according to the student’s schedule
• A Student may enter the Academy at any time
• The date of completion is determined by the date of entrance and the frequency of attendance.

GROOMING ASSISTANT/BATHER BRUSHER

The Grooming Assistant/Bather Brusher is capable of doing all aspects of grooming critical to a groomer with the exception of finished work such as expert scissoring. Skills include proper techniques in:

Bathing
Brushing
Blow-out
De-matting
Removing Shedding coat
Cleaning ears
Brushing of the teeth
Clipping nails
Paw pads

A Grooming Assistant/Bather Brusher is a welcomed position in many grooming shops! A Grooming Assistant/Bather Brusher diploma will be issued upon completion and placement assistance is offered for this program upon graduation. Although the Academy cannot guarantee placement, virtually every graduate can find work immediately upon completing the course.

PROFESSIONAL GROOMER

The New Jersey Dog Grooming Academy is committed to teaching the highest level of quality grooming skills to students wishing to pursue a career as a Professional Groomer. Our main objective is to help students learn all essential elements to professionally groom all breeds of dogs based on the standards set by the American Kennel Club. Students who complete this program will be issued a Professional Groomer diploma upon graduation. Students may choose from various career opportunities such as Professional Pet Groomer, Independent Consultant working through a Vet, Salon Manager or Salon Owner. We encourage our graduates to work in a grooming shop that has seasoned groomers in the beginning so they can continue to learn and grow their confidence. This will allow for hand-on experience while being paid, yet with the back-up of other seasoned groomers.

Although the Academy cannot guarantee placement, virtually every graduate can find work immediately upon completing the course. We receive calls from vets, kennel owners and grooming salons expressing interest in hiring our graduates.

The Professional Groomer will learn all hands on skills of Assistant Groomer/Bather Brusher, along with clipper blade usage and scissoring techniques for all coat types, we also teach basic head patterns, thinning and finishing techniques.

The Academy is also a grooming salon, therefore, courses are taught in a highly individualized hands-on environment by certified instructors.

Students will groom dogs every day and will work and learn at their own pace!
